Because ARAS is a small non-profit shelter, we rely on volunteers to help out with a variety of tasks at the shelter and other events that help support us. Bingo has been discontinued for now. Please check back at this space in the event we will need volunteers to help at the bingo games. There is no minimum age for volunteering at the shelter, however, minors must have a parent or guardian sign a release on their first visit. The following is just a sample of the activities for which volunteers are needed:
  •     Help plan and execute fundraisers (silent auctions, community fairs) Tell us about your event/fundraising ideas!.

  •     Assist in writing, editing and mailing MEWSLETTER (our newsletter). We especially need a volunteer graphic designer for our quarterly newsleter.

  •     Grant writing and researching grant opportunities.

  •     Help keep the shelter grounds tidy, organized and safe.

  •     Socialize feral and timid cats.

  •     Help update our mailing lists and databases.

  •     Clean cages, litterboxes, mop floors or do laundry.

  •     Work at events and fundraisers.

  •     Organize and coordinate volunteers.

  •     Work at the front desk reception and/or adoption counseling at the shelter.

  •     Foster sick or older cats, or moms and kittens at your home until they are ready for adoption.

  •     You tell us!

If you can spare even a few hours a month to help out, please take a minute to complete a volunteer application. Volunteer applications can be completed at the shelter, downloaded in Adobe Acrobat form, or completed online by clicking here.  If you are interested in visiting and socializing with the cats, you may do so at any time once you have completed a volunteer application and taken a tour of the shelter.
You may e-mail us if you have specific questions.
