Special Needs Cats
ARAS has a few special needs kitties that have a lot of love to give, but just need a little extra attention. This can range from as little extra effort as keeping them on a special diet, to making sure they are the only kitty in the household. These are just a few of the special needs kitties we have at the shelter. Regardless of their needs, these kitties need homes just like any others and because of their special status, they often get overlooked because no one wants to take the time. ARAS has a special room at the shelter for FIV and FELV-infected cats. Please be sure to stop by the FIV/FeLV room when you visit the shelter. They make wonderful pets and the extra effort is definitely worth it.

Kacey is a young Siamese mix female who was found as an apparent abandoned cat. It took a few days for her to trust her caretaker enough to allow herself to be caught and brought to the shelter to be cared for and, hopefully, adopted. She has tested positive for FIV and the Feline Leukemia viruses, but remains healthy, active, and playful. Kacey has been with us since 12/2007

Trixie is a small and beautiful young FELV+ tabby with a glowing coat and a tiny white spot on the top of her head. She is very playful and gives even the largest of our boys a good workout running through the rooms! Trixie has been with us since 5/26/06.

Max is a super-friendly big guy who has FIV. He has been at the shelter since February of 2005, and he's ready to share his love with his new home.

Joy has been at ARAS since 1999. Joy is one of the very few female FIV+ cats at ARAS. She is also very healthy and would love a nice home of her own.

Licorice was a feral FIV+ cat, trapped at Fitzsimmons before they began to bulldoze the area. He was extremely timid initially. Recently he had an ear removed due to a tumor. He really became friendly with people around that time.
