Elizabeth has been adopted!

is a 5-6 month old female short hair brown tabby with beautiful markings. She was caught as a feral kitten and has been in a foster home to get used to people. She used to be very scared, but recently has decided that she loves being an indoor cat who likes to cuddle with people. Any sudden movements still scare her and she will need someone with patience to help her adjust to any new environment. But she has come a long way and loves to be picked up and petted once she feels comfortable. It is important that she be an indoor only cat because she would most likely run away if allowed to go outside. She would make a very wonderful, loving pet. Please contact her foster caretaker Tiffany (calgaryflames11@gmail.com) or call 720-939-5989 for more information about her. Elizabeth is back at the shelter waiting for her forever home! Mya

is a long hair white with black tabby markings on her head, tail, and back and has remarkable blue eyes like her sister Mariposa. She is getting more interested in people but has not willingly approached a person yet. She is very interested in treats and does not hide anymore. If she is approached by a person she will run away. She will not let anyone pick her up, but she will allow herself to be petted if she couldn't get away fast enough. Mya is not ready to be adopted yet but is progressing very well and should be ready in 2 or so months. Please contact her foster caretaker Tiffany (calgaryflames11@gmail.com) or call 720-939-5989 for more information about Mya and to set an appointment to visit her. Will has been adopted!

is a beautiful, loving, long hair orange tabby who is about 6-7 months old. He is very loving and cuddly, but will need a little bit of patience while he adjusts to a new home. He LOVES treats and will come right up to anyone with a treat, but is a little hesitant about approaching people otherwise. He really needs to be adopted with another cat or by a family that already owns a cat. He loves other cats, will groom them and rub on them, and feels a little lost if he is by himself. He is also a some-what special needs cat because he is missing a back leg. However, this does not slow him down at all, and in fact, is still the fastest cat in the house. He is looking for a loving, caring home. Please contact his foster caretaker Tiffany (calgaryflames11@gmail.com)or call 720-939-5989 for more information about Will and to set an appointment to visit him. Click on his photo to see another.

Porkchop

Many of you know Porkchop, a loving, wonderful FIV+ boy from John’s Room. He is a mature cat, somewhere between 6 and 10 years old, and has an outstanding personality. People who have met him never forget him. Porkchop recently underwent surgery to remove a 1-lb. tumor which had grown into his small intestine and partially into his pancreas. The tumor was biopsied and diagnosed as cancerous.
He is now fully recovered from his surgery and has lost weight. His fur is as soft as a powder puff, and he looks just great. Those of you who know Porkchop know that he has a sweet face, and likes nothing more than to spend hours curled in someone's lap, enjoying love and affection. He is a world-class lap cat! Expect happy love-nibbles, because he wants to return all the love you give him. He has recently had his teeth cleaned (only has a few left anyway). All his blood values are fine, and indicate he is in good health. He is current on all vaccinations, and currently takes a supplement for his arthritis.
Unfortunately, there is no way to be sure he may not have trouble in the future, but there is reason to suppose he can live a relatively longer and healthier life if he was in the right environment. The veterinarian who treated him could not estimate how long he would live. There is a very tiny possibility the cancer had not spread and that Porkchop could live out a normal lifespan.
Porkchop is living comfortably in a foster home with Tubsey, another FIV+ cat who needs a permanent home. All he asks from whoever will adopt or foster him is that there be no dogs in the home.
Call the shelter directly at 303-744-6076 if you are interested in meeting them for possible adoption. See more photos of this kitty here!

Baby Doe has been adopted!

came to us from another shelter where her time was nearly up. She is a lovebug and will wrap her arms around your neck like she's giving a hug! We think she is around 2 years old. She has been with us since 9/19/09.

Update 12/12/2009: Baby Doe has settled into her foster home, is eating lots and has gained a pound and a half! She is still a small cat at only 5 pounds 5 ounces.

Update 12/01/2009: Baby Doe has found a loving foster home. If you would like to meet her for possible adoption, please email the shelter at arascolorado@netscape.net or call the shelter at 303-744-6076.

Mariposa

is very sweet and likes to be petted if approached slowly. She will willingly come and take treats out of your hand. She is very close to being ready for adoption and could be adopted to a family that would be patient and understand she would need a while to adjust to a new home. Please contact her foster caretaker Tiffany (calgaryflames11@gmail.com) or call 720-939-5989 for more information about Mariposa and to set an appointment to visit her.

Tasha

is a beautiful, soft, black female cat about 7-8 months old. She has gorgeous eyes and is very smart. She loves to play, but she also loves to be petted. She will roll on her back to have her stomach petted and is an instant purr machine. She is just a little bit skittish about being approached by a person who is walking toward her. If someone is sitting on the ground or on the couch you can reach out and pet her or pick her up. If you try to pick her up from a standing position she will run away. She is ready to be adopted, but could use just a little bit more work. Tasha is back at the shelter and waiting for her forever home!

Benson

An elderly lady passed away and left behind 2 cats. A neighbor of mine took the 2 cats as she knew the lady. They are very sweet but have had Herpes their entire lives (they are around 3 now). Herpes is very common in many cats. The best thing to do is to treat with 250 mg BID (twice daily) L-Lysine (in their food is the easiest) for three months on a cycle. Lysine is an amino acid that slows the replication of the Feline Herpes virus. Most cats are carriers of herpes if they have ever had URI (Upper Respiratory Infection) or we ever exposed. Herpes is contagious, however if your other cats are vaccinated the likelyhood of transmission is very small. Please note that with the L-Lysine (very cheap to purchase) and a reduced stress environment, these two kitties will have very few breakouts. They are currently being kept in an indoor / outdoor enclosure out in the country. If you are interested in adopting or fostering these two cats who really need to be kept indoors, please call Janet Beard at 720-252-4990

She loves to 'hide' under her blankets in her kennel. and comes out meowing for pets when she hears her name or the door being opened! She has been with us since 12/15/2009.
